suddenly

Max felt suddenly abandoned. Even Bex was being rather peculiar. As if he had something to spill.

"Mom, you know, very well, I mentioned this to you. Months ago." It felt like years to him. "And you were just as indifferent as you are now. What is it with you and adoption?"

"Why so defensive?" She gave him a stare.

"Defensive?" Well, it felt like an understatement to him. Perhaps they should put on their shield and go at it with a dual match of swords. The outcome might have been more honest. "Can't we get past this?"

"Well, you tell me?" She sound aggravated.

"Bex," Max winced. "What are you trying to accomplish here?"

"I dunno," she shrugged. "I don't know why you two have to be like this. Perhaps if you would just come clean to the both of us about-"

"About what?"

"See? All these questions and not an answer to anything." Bex swelled a frown then that they both better behave themselves.

It was time for dinner.

well, I understand Chris completely. In his place, I would be checking the house for a fire escape, or something. I do think Bex created an awkward situation, although I'm convinced that she did it for the best. I wonder if Max will come out towards his mother. I think he will have to, sooner or later. If Mona isn't completely dim, she will figure it out by herself, because it is unusual that two guys adopt a child together.
