How come Dayton didn't remember this stuff about Nancy? It was a pain going to a concert with her. She was all over the place, acting like she owned it and everyone wanting her. Maybe everyone did, but him.
"She's fuck'n crazy," some dude said to him, wondering if she was old enough to even be drinking.
"Well, she's like that," Dayton grinned and bared it. She was not like that at home. More than once he'd smacked her when she was out of control. Not that he wanted to. He really didn't. He liked a good fight, but usually with a guy. It would just get her crying, and he'd end up leaving because he didn't want it to get any worse than it already could.
And then she'd call and beg him to come home. Luck, he guessed. Maybe. Maybe not. But there she went again, acting like she was something that she was not. And he'd be stuck with her when they got home.
It was like being with a total different person than at Christmas with her folks. He would have thought she was their little angel. It was quite deceiving. It just left Dayton with a bad taste in his mouth. All cute and Miss Adorable. Chummy too. Liar, he kept saying to himself as he went through the motion of being by her side.
And now she was wanting to go off with the Native American dude with the pretty dark blue hair.
"No, no, believe me, you don't know what you're getting in to," Dayton cut in before anyone went a step further. "Believe me, if I'd known, I would have walked away when I could. So just walk away. This is one regret you don't want happening." It was at least enough for the guy to go back to his drink and his friends while Dayton grabbed Nancy's wrist.
"Why do you always have to do this! Why!" She was screaming but the music was loud enough to fade out the noise. She was going home even if he had to stuff her in the trunk to do it.

Dayton, I feel bad for him. I still wonder if he'd really hurt her..though, he seems like the type who'd hurt himself more.
i don't think you've painted dayton as a demon at all. it'll be great watching you flesh him out even more. you always portray all of your characters as multi-faceted and complex. it's a gift you have!
