questioning

Max stopped what he was doing on his laptop as soon as he heard Chris drive up. He'd wanted to come out and meet Chris with a snowball fight, but really this was definitely not winter weather to be frolicking in. One could easily lose something to frost bite if given a chance.

"So how was it?" Max thought he should have helped. It was so lonely. He was lonely here without Chris puttering about. It wasn't that they had to do everything together, and yet it was nice to know he was here and not out there in this storm.

"Not bad." Chris said so little as he took his coat off and his boots too at the door.

"Good. Hope the pipes don't burst or anything."

"They won't." Chris seemed certain after getting all his winter gear off.

"So anything happen?"

"No really," Chris walked off to the kitchen to check on the stew on the stove. Then he walked back into the livingroom gave a little bit of a fake smile. "Dayton dropped by. Did he come by here?"

Max shook his head.

Chris sighed.

"So what did he want?"

"Who knows what Dayton really wants," Chris pushed his fingers through his dark hair. He sat down on the couch then, looking tired. Max sat down next to him.

"What did he say?" Max wanted to know.

"I don't remember," Chris looked away, but Max couldn't help but draw in Chris a little. His fingers played with Chris' hair. He put his arm around him.

"You know he wants you back," Max told him.

"He doesn't know what he wants," Chris winced. "It bothers me that he had to come back and say its all Bex's fault. Everything that has happened to him is her fault, according to him."

"Just an excuse," Max believed.

"You don't think he'd try anything, you know, with the wedding, or anything, do you?" Chris looked at Max.

"You didn't mention anything to him, did you?"

Chris shook his head, no.

"I'm not sure anything or anyone could really help him, you know. And I don't normally think anything like that, but-"

"I thought for sure Nancy would be just what he needed." Chris nodded. "I guess I was wrong."

"You don't think he'd do anything to Nancy, do you?" Max looked at Chris as if he wanted to stop talking about this.

"Well, she did give him herpes."

"Yeah." Max drew in a breath. "I'm really hoping Bex finds better friends. Honestly, I had no idea how bad some of these friends of hers were. "

"She doesn't know about that. " Chris shook her head. "She probably thinks they are all doing better off than she is. Sometimes, you just don't know."

"I guess you're right," Max leaned in, he couldn't help but give Chris a little kiss on the cheek. It was contagious. Christ kissed him back on the mouth.

Max is a health-conscious person!
I wonder too what Dayton really wants.
And I'm curious about those friends of Bex's...
