leaving it alone

Oliver was trying his best to be congenial. He didn't know what her brother really wanted from him. Other than ask him for his blessing so he could marry Max's sister. He supposed.

"Well, I hope Serenity is everything you hope for," Oliver told him as they were leaving.

"I'm hoping you'll both be back. Bex tells me here you have a way of building things. I could really use someone like that." Max stood there looking at him on the porch as Oliver tried his best to get Bex in the car so they could drive away from this.

"Well, I'm not sure if I've got enough time on my hands for such a feat, but if I do, I'll see what I can... maybe help with. I'm not a miracle worker." Oliver shrugged.

"I hope you'll find the time, Oliver." Max meant every word. Oliver could see the honesty on his face. How did he get to be that way? It was as if he was in love with God as much as Oliver was in love with Bex.

Oliver just nodded. He looked at Bex. You'd think all the worshiping had really taken a toll on her.

"I better get Bex home," Oliver said. "She's still got her studies and I'm afraid I haven't let her study at all this weekend." He gave her a squeeze then with her around his arm.

Oliver drove them home. It was the least he could do.

"I don't know if I can do this," Bex frowned.

"You'll feel better once you rest," Oliver suggested. "Maybe you're coming down with something."

"Am I the worst sister in the world or what?" She bit her bottom lip.

"No. I know who the world's worst sister is and you're far from it." Oliver supposed he did need to see Izzy. It was a long time coming, but he should tell her the truth for a change instead of trying to pacify her when he could. She'd just have to see it was better this way if she hadn't already.

"I'm going to take nap." Bex nodded.

"Sounds like a good idea." Oliver wondered what was really on her mind. He remembered when she used to tell him everything. He hoped she still did.
