Well, if this wasn't going to take forever, thought Bex. What was Oliver doing? This was the last thing she expected. He was asking Christ to come into his life and wanted to be a member of this church.
She didn't have that feeling. It was just not in her to have this holy spiritual high. Evidently, Oliver was used to being high, and it didn't take much to get him to that sort of level with things.
Bex didn't get it. It was just silly. She tried not to fold her arms, but she was getting restless. Hungry too.
And then, for Chris to get up and confess to the whole congregation what horrible person he was that made her want to laugh. What had her brother done to him? Making him feel so bad about his life to get him to join this shell of a church. What for? Now he had Oliver, too. God, this was getting painful to watch.
Yet, she felt a tad guilty feeling this way. As if she'd deprive Oliver of something if she didn't go along with him. Yes, she'd say, Christ had died for her sins..yadayadayada..whatever. She just had to get out of this place. It was making her claustrophobic. It was going on into the afternoon.
Finally, most of the congregation was gone. Max was going on over material with the both of them about finding salvation and what it was to be a member of this church. Bex was ready to scream hallelujah when Max finally let them go. Of course, Chris was staying behind.
But as she got up to walk out of the place, she saw Chris looking at her. His eyes lit as if he knew something that she didn't.
"What?" She snapped with a frown.
"Nothing." Chris shook his head, then.
Bex grabbed Oliver's hand. No way was she staying a second longer.
